Native Experiences proudly became part of a meaningful environmental and community initiative during the School for Social Transformation (SST) Edition 10, organised by The Ignite Foundation with the support of Azim Premji Foundation. The 10-day immersive programme on active citizenship and constitutional values brought together 23 young participants from different parts of Kerala for a journey focused on leadership, social awareness, and community engagement. The programme was conducted across carefully curated spaces facilitated by Native Experiences, including Lakeshore Retreats, Varkala and Changemakers Ashram, Calicut. Designed to encourage experiential learning and meaningful conversations, SST Edition 10 combined workshops, discussions, and field activities that connected participants directly with local communities and environmental issues. One of the most impactful sessions of the programme was the beach cleaning drive conducted at Aliyirakkam Beach, where young changemakers came together to contribute towards a cleaner and more sustainable coastal environment in Varkala.
The beach cleanup drive was more than just an environmental activity — it became a strong example of community participation and responsible tourism in Kerala. Participants of SST Edition 10 joined hands with local residents, staff members from the Varkala Municipality and volunteers from Native Experiences to clean the shoreline and spread awareness about waste management and environmental responsibility. The initiative was hosted by Jasim E.V, space manager of Changemakers Ashram, on the guidence of Ignite Foundation mentors including Ijas Hakkim, Naji Mahfood, Jaseel CK, and Abhilash K John who encouraged participants to understand the larger social and ecological impact of their actions. Activities like these are becoming increasingly important for destinations like Varkala, which is globally known for its cliffs, beaches, wellness culture, surfing experiences, and vibrant tourism atmosphere. By involving young people directly in community-based environmental action, the programme highlighted how sustainable tourism in Varkala can be built through awareness, participation, and collective responsibility rather than tourism alone.
For Native Experiences, hosting programmes like SST Edition 10 reflects a deeper vision of creating spaces where travel, culture, learning, and social impact can come together meaningfully. The organisation believes that tourism should not only showcase destinations but also strengthen the connection between visitors, local communities, and the environment. Through locations like Lakeshore Retreats in Varkala and Changemakers Ashram in Kozhikode, Native Experiences continues to support initiatives that encourage conscious travel and transformative experiences across Kerala. The beach cleanup drive also received valuable local support, with refreshments for participants and volunteers generously provided by Cafe Mimosa, Edava, Varkala adding a warm community touch to the event. As Varkala tourism continues to grow, initiatives like this remind us that preserving beaches, protecting local ecosystems, and encouraging responsible travel practices are essential for the future of Kerala tourism. SST Edition 10 stands as an inspiring example of how young people, local communities, and purpose-driven organisations can work together to create lasting positive change while celebrating the beauty and spirit of Varkala.
